SH-360 EXTENSION "Section 1" PROJECT

(dated January 6, 2012)

This is an update regarding the North Texas Tollway Authority's (NTTA) SH-360 Extension "Section 1" Project.  This tollway project is very important to the economic development, growth, and relief of traffic congestion along our SH-360 corridor.  The project would take SH-360 from Sublett / Camp Wisdom 9.7 miles to HWY287.  The project would eventually link SH-360 with 161North (that one day will be extended south to I-20).  This ultimate connection would give us a straight shot to the DFW airport and reduce traffic congestion along HWY360 north of I-20.  However, this connection will be pursued after the SH-360 Extension "Section 1" Project is completed.

The Texas Transportation Commission approved the work plan for the SH-360 Extension "Section 1" Project on September 24, 2009.  This approval allowed the environmental study to start in December 2009 and is planned to be completed by December 2012.  By the Summer 2013, a financial analysis will be produced for this project that will establish how it gets funded.  The likelihood is that we may not have enough traffic volume for this project to be fully funded by the NTTA.  Thus, the neighboring cities (and possibly counties) like Mansfield, Arlington, and Grand Prairie may have to kick in some funding for this project.  The results of the financial analysis will be important to see what burden that these cities and others may have to carry for project funding.

Construction could start for the SH-360 Extension "Section 1" Project by late 2015 or early 2016 and be completed in 2018.  The biggest unknowns for this schedule will be how timely that sufficient funding is established and if a design/build (design and construction may be pursued as a single phase of implementation that can save a year on the schedule) approach for this project could be done.

A Public meeting was held on June 24, 2010 at Mansfield City Hall to present the preliminary plans for this project.  A Public Hearing will be held on this project during summer/fall 2012 that will present the proposed project and its draft environmental study.

Check out the Project Update Fact Sheet link below to see details plus a very good map that shows our Section 1 length of this project to SH-287, the future Section 2 length to HWY-67, and a far future Section 3 length that goes beyond HWY-67.   Three other links are also included below that gives further information on this project.

Also --- check out the following five sets of plans that show plan view details for this project, along with an environmental constraints and typical cross-sections along the length of the project.
